So what were visual artists doing with their building-sized computers in the 1950s, while Raymond Scott and his pals were spewing out all their amazing (and spooky) electronic music?

Making this amazing schtoff.

In honor of Putin visiting India, which makes me feel all Afanasy-y inside, here is a whole mess of beautiful Russian paintings of the Himalayas by Nicholas Roerich.

I want to be clear that I did not do this personally, but at the same time it does make sense to me. I would consider spending tons of money, bringing a powerful transmitter to the top of the Sears tower, and risking prison just to annoy Dr. Who fans.

Na mean?

DID YOU KNOW that there are dozens of sublime Soviet bus stops out there?

(from metafilter)

DID YOU KNOW how entertaining it could be to watch an inventor demo his homemade guitar pedals?

DID YOU KNOW that your voice becomes irresistable when you have an enormous coiffe?

Everything that has not yet been covered here is now available at MonsterPuppets.com.

Yer world is now complete.

It is true: if you don't have any actual warm air blowing on you, you can bring your body temperature up by 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, just by listening to crazy loud insane music!

It's like Swiss Miss for the earholes. Just try it!

Cyriak makes some good ol' fashioned animated gifs. If you slog thru enough metafilter, you find these things.

Also, there is a new Tin Hat album a-comin' on the 30th of this month. Get ready!

Here is your Speak and Spell.
ARTBBQ may be my new favorite spot on the web: lovely upon the eyes... plus, like a Chewels, there is a burst of refreshing flavor inside the website.

Flavor waves of art, music, and creative output links.

Architecture at left is from Scott Teplin.

You're welcome.

Kris Moyes has made a nifty stop-motion video for a song by Softlightes entitled Heart Made of Sound.

And you can watch it for free!

Thanks to Cartoon Brew for the pointer.
Anyone who caught the garden of earthly delights that was the Pixar exhibit at the MoMA last year will recognize this... everyone else may take a minute to figure out what the heck is going on in this picture. (when the site asks for a password, hit "cancel.")

Trust me, it is NOT computer-aided,
it's a whirling sculpture of sorts.

I could stare at this all evening.

(the photo is from flickr...)

PES continues to knock my head right off, not least because vise-grips are my single favorite tool of all time.

Samurai is mighty terrific.

Three-Legged Legs made it, and I don't blame them at all.

You should watch it!
